Strawberry Creek Monitoring Group (SCMG)

Strawberry Creek Monitoring Group (SCMG)

The Strawberry Creek Monitoring Group began in 2024 as an offshoot of the Strawberry Creek Restoration Program, and is funded by The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF). SCMG aims to protect UC Berkeley's urban watershed, Strawberry Creek, through real-time water monitoring and community outreach.

SCMG currently utilizes a continuous sensor network to track Strawberry Creek's conductivity, temperature, and depth. SCMG is working on installing sensors for dissolved oxygen and turbidity. Our sensors run in real-time, with the goal of shortening the response time to potential contaminants and thus reducing their impact on the surrounding ecosystem. SCMG designs our sensors with open-source hardware and software to make them more affordable and adaptable for other communities.

Beyond technology, SCMG creates course content and hosts community outreach events to foster interdisciplinary learning about Strawberry Creek! If you're interested in learning more about our work, visit our website
