1994

This report is part of an on-going Strawberry Creek watershed monitoring program at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).  It describes cross-sectional elevation measurements taken in early 1994 at fifteen locations on the UC Berkeley campus and compares these elevations to 1990 measurements (Huse & Gonzalez, 1990).  The purpose of such comparison is to determine the effectiveness of past erosion control measures and to provide the University with additional information needed for prioritizing current erosion control and habitat restoration efforts.  This study is a foll

Strawberry Creek Surface Bed Material Size Study

Sarah Morley
1994

This study was undertaken to establish a method by which to document the effects of sedimentation on Strawberry Creek. It presents baseline data for the distribution of surface bed material size at points above and below suspected points of sediment discharge along the creek. This information can be used in future sedimentation monitoring efforts to quantify changes in bed material size.

Despite the biological, social, and physical challenges that exist in urban creek restorations, there are opportunities to effectively involve local residents in ecological rehabilitation projects. An urban riparian restoration project along Strawberry Creek (Berkeley, CA) began with the goal of removing exotic vegetation and restoring native plant coverage. However, through the involvement of local high school and college students, the project accomplished an additional goal of educating the local community about restoration and conservation.
