UC Berkeley's Green Gateways team, comprised of Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning (LAEP), College of Environmental Design (CED), students and a faculty advisor, received an Honorable Mention in a national competition known as the EPA RainWorks Challenge. Students were tasked with designing an innovative green infrastructure project for their campus that addresses stormwater pollution and provides additional benefits to the campus community and environment.
Over the course of the spring 2024 semester, the students attended in campus stormwater tours with the Office of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S); sought feedback with professionals in the field, many with personal connections to UC Berkeley; reviewed campus planning documents, including the Campus Master Plan and the Resilient Water Plan; and ultimately designed a proposal revitalizing three campus entry points situated near Strawberry Creek - improving stormwater infrastructure and building social connection with the Strawberry Creek Watershed.
