Strawberry Creek runs through the University of California, Berkeley and in the past, it was degraded due to urban and campus development. This project looked at changes in water quality starting from the upper North Fork, through the Berkeley campus, and into western Berkeley. Strawberry Creek has been very important to the Berkeley campus and the Berkeley
community as a whole. Strawberry Creek has two major forks, north and south, which run
through the campus and the city. Fish populations in the creek began disappearing after the turn
of the 20th century due to poor water conditions and poor creek management. Since 1987 many
efforts have been made to introduce fish into the creek. Currently, the south fork has an

Officials announced on January 11, 2012 that the active diesel fuel cleanup effort at Strawberry Creek
has concluded and the response to the diesel spill that occurred on December 10 at UC Berkeley
