Historic Flooding In Berkeley

Roger Lawler

Since the 1850's, when it began to be settled by substantial numbers of people, Berkeley has experienced periodic flooding. Present-day flooding stems from both natural and human-induced causes; it seldom results in severe damages, but can cause major inconveniences.

Strawberry Creek Cross-Section Report

Karl Hans
Sarah Morley
1994

This report is part of an on-going Strawberry Creek watershed monitoring program at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). It describes cross-sectional elevation measurements taken in early 1994 at fifteen locations on the UC Berkeley campus and compares these elevations to 1990 measurements (Huse & Gonzalez, 1990). The purpose of such comparison is to determine the effectiveness of past erosion control measures and to provide the University with additional information needed for prioritizing current erosion control and habitat restoration efforts. This study is a follow...

Storm Drain Study, Strawberry Creek Watershed at University of California, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory

G T Kuntz, Consulting Engineer
1980

The purpose of this study has been to analyze the adequacy of the existing storm drainage facilities during a major storm of design intensity and to evaluate the impact of present and proposed future LBL developments within the watershed.
This report considers the watershed area above Gayley Road only and does not discuss the flow in the channels within the portion of Campus situated below Gayley·Road.

Restoration Recommendations for Fish Species Re-population of Strawberry Creek based on High Flow and Stream Habitat Assessment

Cheryl Lee
2025

Strawberry Creek is an urbanized creek that is in the process of being restored. However, the final step of re-populating the creek with fish has not been as successful as planned. One proposed theory for the failure of these attempts has been the lack of high flow refuges. To address this possibility flow patterns were observed and diagrammed during times of high flows at various sites along the creek on the U.C. Berkeley campus. High flows are flows caused by rain storms resulting in higher than normal flows. Habitat assessment was also a concern, thus, creek characteristics of depth,...
